Siam City Cement renames Holcim's former Vietnam operations

Siam City Cement Public Co Ltd (SCCC), Thailand’s second-largest cement producer, announced it will rename its Holcim Vietnam Co into Siam City Cement Vietnam. SCCC signed an agreement in August 2016 to buy LafargeHolcim’s entire 65 per cent stake in LafargeHolcim Vietnam for US$890m. SCCC recently embarked on a strategy of building a regional asset footprint. The cement producer has already established operations in Indonesia, Cambodia and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Analysts may ponder whether cement production in Vietnam is entering a crucial phase as this week the Ministry of Construction announced that it would be divesting a large stake in the Vicem cement group with a public offering in the 4Q16.
